Jalen Reagor was a surprising cut
The Patriots had some tough decisions to make Wednesday.
New England was awarded four players on the waiver wire: linebacker Curtis Jacobs (Kansas City Chiefs), defensive tackle Eric Johnson (Indianapolis Colts) and offensive tackles Demontrey Jacobs (Denver Broncos) and Zachary Thomas (Los Angeles Rams).
How did that affect the rest of the team? The Patriots had to open up four spots just one day after finalizing their initial roster, meaning another round of cuts were coming.
Jalen Reagor and Isaiah Bolden, somewhat surprisingly, were among them, according to Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald.
Reagor’s release is perhaps the more surprising of the two, as it was expected he’d serve as the primary kick return option for New England in 2024. The Patriots, however, did hint that his job security was tied to the third phase, keeping Kayshon Boutte on the roster as the sixth receiver.
Bolden, who was expected to serve as a primary depth option in the slot, was also surprisingly cut loose. The Patriots should — and likely will — look to bring him back on the practice squad.
The Patriots need to make two more cuts to get back to 53.
