The Patriots reportedly brought back an undrafted rookie running back 10 days after they released him.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, New England re-signed Deshaun Fenwick on Monday. The 24-year-old was waived following offensive lineman Kellen Diesch's addition to the roster. Fenwick's return gave the Patriots six bodies at running back: Rhamondre Stevenson, Antonio Gibson, Kevin Harris, JaMycal Hasty and Terrell Jennings.
New England signed Fenwick after the 2024 NFL Draft, and the Oregon State product seemed to have a realistic chance at making the 53-man roster given he fit the historical profile the team looks for in running backs. In his six-year collegiate career at South Carolina and Oregon State, Fenwick rushed for 2,039 yards and scored 18 touchdowns, and he caught 31 passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns.
The 24-year-old will again compete for the third running back job as New England prepares for joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles at Gillette Stadium.
