Patriots Rookie Ja’Lynn Polk Expands On Jerod Mayo’s Praise

'That's my goal, just to be better than I was yesterday'

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo praised rookie wideout Ja’Lynn Polk, who has continued to stand out during training camp — especially since New England began padded practices.

“That’s just a mindset,” Polk told reporters on Thursday, per team-provided video. “When the ball gets flying around, and things get a little rough, you got to go. You got to be ready for that. It’s just that next step. Just being prepared for what’s next.”

With the Patriots’ wide receiver corps being ranked 32nd in the league, Polk has been motivated to prove the critics wrong and said he has been getting better during each practice.

“I get better each and every day,” Polk said. “That’s my goal, just to be better than I was yesterday. My mindset coming in here is to get better.”

The Patriots have a mixture of players who can catch the ball, but without a true No. 1 receiver, the wideouts have simply been doing what they can to jumpstart the offense.

“Just going out there and doing your job,” Polk said. “It’s great, we got a bunch of great guys in there who are willing to go out there and compete for the team. Everybody goes in and works hard each and every day. We push each other and go out there and give our best.”
