Boston adds three experienced coaches to its staff

PWHL Boston announced a litany of hockey operations hirings Monday, with a trio of coaches being added to its staff.

The additions include skills coach Courtney Kennedy, goalie coach Lenny Mosca and video coach Shawn Roche.

Kennedy, the most notable addition, has served as Boston College’s skills coach since 2007, specializing in defense and special teams. Under Kennedy’s direction, the Eagles earned seven Hockey East Best Defenseman Awards, including three to PWHL Boston’s top defender Megan Keller.

“Courtney Kennedy is a Boston legend. … Courtney has mentored some of the top athletes in our sport,” Boston general manager Danielle Marmer said in a release. “Her experience with elite players at the highest levels will undoubtedly be an asset to our coaching staff.”

Mosca joins head coach Courtney Kessel’s staff after serving two seasons as the goalie coach with UMass Dartmouth men’s hockey.

“I’m honored to join the staff of PWHL Boston. It’s an exciting opportunity to be a part of an incredible organization,” Mosca said, per the team. “I’m looking forward to the start of the season and leading the goaltenders through a successful year.”

“Shawn brings extensive knowledge of video systems in hockey, having served as a video coordinator in various prestigious roles,” said Marmer. ” … Shawn’s wealth of expertise will be a valuable addition to PWHL Boston, and we eagerly anticipate integrating his elite skillset into our coaching staff.”

PWHL Boston had a successful inaugural season that fell just shy of capturing the league’s first championship. Marmer and Kessel will lean on the team’s leaders to help Boston grow in its sophomore season.
