Red Sox Announce Litany Of Roster Moves Ahead Of Blue Jays Game

The Red Sox continue to tweak their pitching staff after dropping both games of a doubleheader against the Blue Jays at Fenway Park on Monday.

Boston selected Rich Hill to its active roster from Triple-A Worcester before Tuesday’s matchup against Toronto, the club announced. The club designated pitcher Brad Keller to make room for Hill.

The activation marked a return to the big leagues for Hill, who signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox on Aug. 16. The 20-year veteran last pitched for Boston in 2022, posting an 8-7 record across 124 1/3 innings with a .427 ERA with 109 strikeouts.

Keller’s latest run with the Red Sox was short-lived after the club activated the right-hander on Monday. Keller pitched four innings against the Blue Jays, surrendering five runs (three earned) on seven hits in the fifth inning. He appeared in 11 games for Boston this season, logging a 5.84 ERA over 24 2/3 innings.

The Red Sox also recalled Greg Weissert from the Woo Sox after placing right-handed pitcher Lucas Sims on the 15-day injured list with a right lat strain.

Weissert has appeared in 47 games for the Red Sox this season, posting a 2-2 record while logging a 4.10 ERA over 48 1/3 innings. The right-hander tossed six innings in four games for Worcester, allowing just one run during his time in Triple-A.

Boston has lost five of its last six games and will look to end its losing skid against Toronto after suffering a doubleheader sweep on Monday. First pitch from Fenway Park is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.
