Red Sox Make Roster Move Before Doubleheader Vs. Blue Jays

Brad Keller is back in Boston

The Red Sox tweaked their pitching staff before playing two at Fenway Park on Monday.

Boston selected Brad Keller to its active roster from Triple-A Worcester before its doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays, the club announced. The club designated Joely Rodríguez for assignment to make room for Keller.

The activation marked a return to the big leagues for Keller, who had been with the WooSox since Aug. 14 when he signed a minor-league deal with the Red Sox after declining an option and electing free agency. Keller appeared in 10 games for Boston this season before the new deal, logging a 5.66 ERA over 20 2/3 total innings.

Rodríguez’s latest run with the Red Sox was short-lived after the club selected the left-hander’s contract Friday night. Rodríguez pitched in every game of Boston’s three-game weekend series against Arizona, which marked his first MLB work since April. The southpaw logged 2 2/3 total innings against the Diamondbacks and only allowed one run on four hits with no walks and one strikeout.

The Red Sox will look to turn the tides against the Blue Jays on Monday after suffering a costly sweep over the weekend. Doubleheader action begins at 2 p.m. ET on NESN.
