Bailey Horn heads back to Worcester
The Boston Red Sox made another arm swap before they started a three-game series against the Houston Astros on Monday.
Greg Weissert is back in the big leagues with the Red Sox, who sent Bailey Horn back to Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move, per a team release.
Weissert last pitched for Boston on July 28 against the New York Yankees before he was demoted. The right-hander, who the Red Sox acquired from the Yankees last offseason, struggled as the summer rolled. He posted a 5.73 ERA in June and a 6.17 ERA in July.
Upon the move to Worcester, Weissert held a 1.50 ERA in four Triple-A outings prior to Monday’s recall. He joins the Red Sox bullpen at a critical time as Boston trails the Kansas City Royals by 3 1/2 games for the final playoff spot in the American League.
Boston faced the Astros at Fenway Park earlier this month and Houston earned a three-game sweep.
The Red Sox and Astros begin the three-game series at Minute Maid Park on Monday night with first pitch set for 8:10 p.m. ET. You can catch the game, plus an hour of pregame coverage, on NESN.
