Red Sox Wrap: Wilyer Abreu Powers Boston To Series Win Vs. Rangers

Abreu had his first-ever multi-homer game

The Boston Red Sox earned a series victory against the Texas Rangers with a 7-2 win at Globe Life Field on Sunday afternoon.

Boston, which has now won eight of its last 10 rubber matches, improved to 59-51 on the campaign. Texas dropped to 53-59.

ONE BIG TAKEAWAY
Wilyer Abreu led the way for the Red Sox offense, which has now scored six or more runs in 11 of its last 14 games. Boston scored its seven runs on 10 hits and four walks.

Boston got the best of Rangers starter Nathan Eovaldi, who allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings. And when Texas reliever Walter Pennington took over for Eovaldi in the sixth inning, Abreu belted a three-run home run to break the game open.

Abreu (2-for-4, four RBIs, two runs) recorded his first-ever multi-home run game. He previously tied the game with a solo home run in the fourth inning. That home run erased an early 2-0 lead by the Rangers, who took a one-run lead just two batters into the contest.

— Jarren Duran (3-for-4, two RBIs, run, walk) reached base four times. Duran connected on a RBI double to center field in the third inning before he belted his own home run to right-center field in the fifth inning.

— David Hamilton (2-for-3, two runs, RBI, walk) reached base three times out of the No. 9 spot in the Red Sox order. Hamilton provided some added insurance with a solo home run to right field in the eighth inning. He scored from first on the RBI double by Duran in the third inning.
