The Patriots could announce their starter on Thursday
The New England Patriots appear to have reached a decision on the team’s starting quarterback entering the 2024 season.
The team scheduled another news conference for Jerod Mayo at 8:30 a.m. ET on Thursday morning and Jerod Mayo gave some insight into the process already this week.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport believes Mayo showed a side of what his culture will look like in his first season as New England’s head coach.
“The fact that Jerod Mayo wants to talk to his team first and then deal with the media is, to me, at least interesting about how he wants to lead and how he wants to handle things,” Rapoport shared on NFL Network on Wednesday. “Making sure that his players know first. This is something that coaches do in different ways.”
Shaping culture in the post-Bill Belichick era is an immediate priority for Mayo as he begins to craft his legacy with the Patriots, first as a player and now as a coach.
Rapoport added that it still appears that veteran Jacoby Brissett will likely be the choice over the recently improved efforts of rookie Drake Maye for the Patriots. From there, New England moves into game preparation to begin the season on Sept. 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
