The group even posed for a photo, too
Celtics and Team USA guard Derrick White had never met Tom Brady over his two-plus seasons with Boston.
Well, the 2024 Paris Olympics offered White the opportunity to get to know the New England Patriots legend a little bit.
Brady chatted up White along with fellow Celtics stars Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday at USA Basketball’s 50th anniversary party Monday. The group also posed for a photo.
“That was dope,” White told The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach. “He’s obviously the GOAT and I was pretty excited to see him. He congratulated us (on the NBA championship) and we talked a little bit about the parade and how it compared to theirs.”
Brady got to roll through the streets of Boston in a duck boat six times after winning that many Super Bowls with the Patriots over his illustrious two-decade run with the franchise. White, Holiday and Tatum all just experienced their first championship parade in Boston nearly two months ago after vanquishing the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.
But there was one clear difference between the parades Brady enjoyed and the one the Celtics just went through.
“Ours was warmer,” White said.
Perhaps some of Brady’s winning magic will help the Celtics trio return from Paris with a gold medal.
They are only two wins away from achieving that with Team USA taking on Serbia in the semifinal round Thursday.
