When Could Red Sox’s Prospect Trio Make Leap To Triple-A?

Could Worcester welcome three young prospects soon?

The Boston Red Sox have put forth a legitimate run toward securing their first postseason appearance in three years, while also patiently awaiting the developments of prospects Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony and Kyle Teel.

Boston remains 1 1/2 games behind the Kansas City Royals for the third and final wild card spot in the American League, and while that’s been priority No. 1 for the Red Sox all season long, the developments of Mayer, Anthony and Teel, too, have drawn eyes. The trio currently plays for the organization’s Double-A affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs, while continuing to raise eyebrows giving everyone a glimpse into Boston’s future — and also prompting the one important question: When should expect a Triple-A promotion?

“Any day now,” Sea Dogs play-by-play announcer Emma Tiedemann said on NESN’s “Respect Her Game” podcast. “Every day we see the lineup and they’re still in it we’re like, ‘Okay, we get them for another day.’ So we always are excited when they’re still in our lineup, but you can tell they’re ready to move up anytime. It could be tomorrow, it could be at the end of the season at this rate. I think we’re all surprised that they’re still here with us but we’re very lucky that they’re in our lineup every day.”

Mayer, Anthony and Teel are Boston’s top three prospects respectively, presumably set to become the next wave of Red Sox stars for years to come. Mayer, a shortstop, Anthony, an outfielder, and Teel, a catcher, should keep fans excited for what’s to come — perhaps sooner than expected from Boston’s farm system.
