Roman Anthony has enjoyed a meteoric rise in Boston's farm system
Boston Red Sox fans will love Baseball America’s new top 100 prospects list.
BA updated its rankings this week, and Red Sox prospect Roman Anthony now sits at No. 2 overall, trailing only Junior Caminero of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Anthony is one of six Red Sox prospects to crack the list. The others: Marcelo Mayer (11), Kristian Campbell (25), Kyle Teel (26), Braden Montgomery (61) and Franklin Arias (94).
Anthony’s aggressive ranking — he ranked No. 21 before the season — is another example of the high-potential talent looming in the Red Sox farm system. Boston’s pipeline has come a long way over the last few years, sparking organizational optimism for 2025 and beyond.
“Anthony was one of the breakout stars of the 2023 season, and he’s continued to impress throughout 2024,” Baseball America’s updated write-up reads. “He’s poised to reach the majors before his 21st birthday, and he has a combination of power and plate discipline that should serve him well for years to come.”
Anthony, a second-round pick in 2022, recently earned a promotion to Triple-A Worcester after strong results at Double-A Portland. There’s a good chance he’ll make his way to Boston at some point next season. And he might not be alone given the projected MLB timelines for several of the Red Sox’s top prospects.
Anthony, Mayer and Teel were considered the “big three” heading into 2024, but Campbell’s jaw-dropping breakout is garnering national recognition, as well. It’s possible we see all four players with the MLB club in 2025.
