Brad Marchand Addresses Jeremy Swayman’s Bruins Contract Situation

Full training camp begins Sept. 18

Bruins training camp is less than a week away and restricted free agent Jeremy Swayman is without a new contract as of Friday morning.

Swayman and Boston agreed to not go into arbitration, which signaled the sides aren’t too far off on a new contract. Multiple members of Bruins leadership expressed hope that a deal could be reached to complete the goals the team set out for the offseason.

The Boston goalie was present for captains’ practice at Warrior Ice Arena last week, and Brad Marchand has been asked a lot about his teammate’s contract situation.

“It’s a big topic of conversation with the fans and the media, and this is part of the business, and we all are really looking forward to when it does get done and the process is over and he is back with the group,” Marchand told reporters Thursday, per The Boston Globe. “But that’s obviously out of our hands and we don’t get involved in any of that. So it’ll be great when everything gets kind of squared away.”

Marchand admitted last week he didn’t want to talk about his personal contract status in front of the media, but the captain didn’t seem too worried heading into training camp that starts next Wednesday.

Head coach Jim Montgomery deferred to general manager Don Sweeney when asked about Swayman, but it seems like the optimism has not wavered on Swayman’s contract situation getting worked out on time.
