Bruins Trim Roster Heading Into Final Training Camp Week

Boston has until Oct. 7 to get down to the 23-man roster

The Bruins made several moves to trim down their training camp roster as Boston enters the final full week of practice before opening night on Oct. 8, the team announced on Sunday.

Forwards Fabian Lysell and Georgii Merkulov, who were candidates for the open second-line right wing spot in Boston, were the two most notable prospects released from camp and sent to Providence. Lysell tallied one goal and four shots on goal, and Merkulov registered two assists in three preseason games for Boston.

The Bruins also announced forward Marc McLaughlin was placed on waivers with the intention of the North Billerica native reporting to Providence. Boston also made several other roster cuts on Sunday.

The full list of players reporting to Boston’s AHL affiliate included:

Forwards: Joey Abate, Riley Duran, John Farinacci, Brett Harrison, Trevor Kuntar, Fabian Lysell, Adam Mechura, Georgii Merkulov, Jaxon Nelson

Defensemen: Drew Bavaro, Frederic Brunet, Michael Callahan, Jackson Edward, Loke Johansson, Mason Millman, Ryan Mast

The club also announced Kasimir Kaskisuo has been released from the professional tryout he signed on Sept. 19 and will report to Providence.

The moves leave the Bruins with the following players on the NHL roster:

Defensemen: Brandon Carlo, Hampus Lindholm, Mason Lohrei, Charlie McAvoy, Ian Mitchell, Jordan Oesterle, Andrew Peeke, Alec Regula, Billy Sweezey, Parker Wotherspoon, Nikita Zadorov

Goaltenders: Brandon Bussi, Michael DiPietro, Joonas Korpisalo

The final 23-man roster is due at 5 p.m. ET on Monday, Oct. 7. The Bruins will open the regular season on Tuesday, Oct. 8 vs. the Florida Panthers at Amerant Bank Arena.
