Jacoby Brissett Has Clear Message For Frustrated Patriots Receiver

Week 2 highlighted a lack of explosion from the Patriots offense, and Jacoby Brissett knows he must be better.

The blame wasn’t solely on the New England signal-caller as Jerod Mayo admitted he and the rest of the coaching staff also need to be better at putting players in the best position to succeed.

One player who was highlighted after last Sunday’s loss to the Seattle Seahawks was DeMario Douglas, who was not targeted once while playing 56% of snaps. The 23-year-old admitted it was “frustrating” to see a lack of action, but Brissett sent a message to the second-year wide receiver.

“I’m glad he’s frustrated,” Brissett said on the “WEEI Afternoon Show” on Monday. “If he wasn’t, it would be more alarming than not getting him the ball. But just explain to him that you’re going to have those kind of games like that. It’s the second game of the year. We’re still trying to figure out our identity and how things are going to play out as far as the offense. It’s a long season. I told him, ‘There’s 15 games left. There’s a lot of football ahead of us. We’re still getting better as a whole, individually, the offense.’ I’m glad he’s frustrated, but you got to use the frustration the right way.”

The Patriots won’t have much time to tweak things with the offense as they prepare to take on the New York Jets on Thursday.
