VA Hero Of The Week: Jerod Mayo Earns First Win As Patriots Head Coach

The Pats pulled off the upset to begin Mayo's coaching career

NFL football is back!

Week 1 featured some wild games including the Patriots surprising 16-10 upset over the Bengals. It earned Jerod Mayo his first win as head coach, making him our VA Hero of the Week.

The Patriots took charge of the game early with a Rhamondre Stevenson touchdown and continued to dominate in the run game during the win. The Pats also played mistake-free football on offense, winning the turnover battle 2-0.

Mayo joins Ron Meyer, Raymond Berry, Dick MacPherson and Pete Carroll as the only Patriots coaches to earn a win in their first regular-season game. He went home with the game ball after an impressive victory in his debut.
