MLB Makes Decision On Discipline For Red Sox’s Alex Cora In Yankees Incident

Red Sox manager Alex Cora got himself in some hot water this past weekend, but he came out of it unscathed.

According to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo and The Boston Globe’s Pete Abraham, MLB did not discipline Cora after his comments following Saturday’s heated contested against the New York Yankees made it seem like the Red Sox threw at Aaron Judge after Cora felt Rafaela Devers was intentionally hit by Gerrit Cole.

MLB investigated the situation for two days before coming to its decision and Cora confirmed prior to Tuesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays that he wasn’t suspended or fined due to his part in the incident.

“We’re good,” Cora told reporters from Tropicana Field, per MassLive’s Christopher Smith. “I mean, I’m here.”

Cora voiced his outrage following the contest against the Yankees and then alluded on Sunday that Boston had its “chance” at retaliation in the game, but missed its opportunity. What Cora seemed to be referring to was Brayan Bello throwing a 97.4 mph fastball behind Judge to begin the bottom of the sixth inning.

That prompted MLB to look into that matter and Cora said he spoke to the league office, per Smith.

With the incident settled now, Cora can put his full focus on trying to get the Red Sox in the playoffs. Boston entered Tuesday four games back of the final American League wild-card spot with just 12 games remaining.
