NBA Rumors: Veteran Free Agent Reportedly Linked To Celtics

Boston has one roster spot open

The Boston Celtics have brought back nearly the entire championship roster from last season’s NBA title run. According to Spotrac’s Keith Smith, the Celtics and other teams are working out former Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns forward Nassir Little as a possible veteran addition to the roster.

Little averaged 3.4 points, 1.7 rebounds and 0.5 assists in 10.2 minutes per night across 45 games with the Suns last season. Phoenix waived the 24-year-old last month. He spent his first four NBA seasons in Portland before coming to the Suns in a three-team trade last September.

The Celtics have been known to take chances on defensively solid players who struggle offensively, like Jaden Springer and Xavier Tillman. Boston has 14 players on fully guaranteed deals, plus others on training camp or non-guaranteed contracts, along with luxury tax considerations.

Little reportedly has worked out or will work out for the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat and Sacramento Kings. Sacramento has 14 players signed to the official roster (not counting two-way deals), but only 12 have fully guaranteed contracts. Golden State has 15 players on the official roster but just 12 have fully guaranteed deals. Miami is in the same situation as the Celtics, with 14 players on fully guaranteed deals and luxury tax considerations.
