Gibson had over 100 total yards against the Seahawks
Antonio Gibson signed with the Patriots as part of a lackluster free agent class for New England. Lackluster in terms of not really making a splash.
That doesn’t mean those players can’t make immediate impacts with New England. Gibson showed that on Sunday in a 23-20 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
New England’s No. 2 running back behind Rhamondre Stevenson tallied 96 yards on the ground for the Patriots and added a seven-yard reception to surpass 100 total yards on the afternoon.
While the team did not finish the drive, Gibson gave a spark in the fourth quarter, taking a pitch from quarterback Jacoby Brissett and hustling 45 yards to set the offense up in Seattle territory. New England would eventually stall out before the Seahawks blocked a field goal attempt to turn the momentum of the game.
Regardless, the Patriots have shown positive signs in both players and game trends after the first two weeks of the NFL season. Gibson added to that on Sunday, showing that the Patriots should have some decent production between him and the proven talent with Stevenson as the starter. That’s if New England’s offensive line can protect playmakers in Foxboro moving forward.
Gibson and the Patriots return to action in short order on Thursday night against the New York Jets.
