Patriots Sign Wide Receiver To Practice Squad Who Set School Record

John Jiles was released by the Giants ahead of the 53-man roster cutdown

The New England Patriots on Tuesday afternoon announced the signing of undrafted rookie wide receiver John Jiles.

Jiles originally signed with the New York Giants before he was released ahead of the 53-man roster deadline.

The 24-year-old Jiles set a school record of 1,255 receiving yards on 66 receptions with 16 touchdowns during his final collegiate season at West Florida.

Jiles previously played at Fort Scott Community College (Fort Scott, Kan.) and Virginia Union after receiving offers from Marshall, Memphis, Southern Miss, East Carolina and UMass.

Jiles, listed at 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds, has excellent size and length for the position. NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein classified Jiles as a “priority free agent” before the 2024 NFL Draft.

Jiles joins the Patriots practice squad after New England released Jalen Reagor from the practice squad last week. Reagor, who failed to make New England’s initial 53-man roster, signed to the Los Angeles Chargers practice squad.

The Patriots on Monday announced they also signed offensive tackle Jalen McKenzie to the practice squad. The two additions filled New England’s practice squad.
