Red Sox Wrap: Boston Completes Comeback Bid Vs. Blue Jays

The Boston Red Sox continued their three-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays with a 6-5 extra-innings victory on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre.

With the win, Boston improves to 80-78 while Toronto falls to 73-85.

Boston’s bats were nonexistent for the majority of the night against Toronto starter Bowden Francis. The right-hander limited the Red Sox to just three hits across five strong innings. Francis seems to have Boston’s number this season after tossing seven scoreless innings with just one hit allowed in a win over the Red Sox on Aug. 29.

The Red Sox did have plenty of traffic early on, but they couldn’t find ways to consistently cash in, going 2-for-11 with five runners left on to start the game.

Boston finally made a push in the seventh inning when Ceddanne Rafaela plated a pair of runs once the Red Sox cracked into the Toronto bullpen. Masataka Yoshida tied the game an inning later with a fielder’s choice to score Romy González. Over the two frames, Boston tallied three runs on five hits to eventually force extra innings.

The Red Sox kept the momentum rolling in extra innings with a three-run 10th inning when Trevor Story delivered the lead on an RBI double. Toronto did not go away quietly with two runs in the home half before Chase Shugart finally closed it out as the Blue Jays left the bases loaded.
