Red Sox’s Rafael Devers Opens Up About Season-Ending Injury

'It's part of the game'

Rafael Devers has his sights set on being the best version of himself in the Red Sox’s 2025 season.

After dealing with nagging shoulder injuries for the majority of the current campaign, Devers finally was shut down by Boston on Saturday when he was placed on the 10-day injured list. The star third baseman will miss the Red Sox’s final eight games of the season while he deals with shoulder inflammation.

Speaking with the media inside Boston’s clubhouse Sunday, Devers issued his first public comments since he was put on the shelf.

“Things happen. It’s part of the game,” Devers told reporters through translator, as seen on NESN. “It happens to many other baseball players. I’m not frustrated, it’s just a little bit disappointing. At the same time, you have to deal with it.”

The three-time All-Star also confirmed neither of his shoulder ailments will require surgery over the offseason.

The Red Sox, who earned a series win Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of the Minnesota Twins, will round out their 2024 slate this week. Boston’s final road trip of the season will begin Monday when it opens a three-game series against the rival Toronto Blue Jays.
