What Bruins Owner Wanted To Make Clear About Jeremy Swayman Situation
The B's are staying in close contact with Swayman
Don Sweeney recently shut down a recent report that there was an extended period of silence between the Bruins and Jeremy Swayman.
Charlie Jacobs provided a similar dose of clarity Monday morning when he met with the media.
“I have been in constant communication with Don and Cam (Neely) about the Jeremy Swayman negotiations,” Jacobs told reporters, as seen on NESN. “I want to be clear that we are in a state of constant communication.”
Jacobs also spoke for Bruins ownership when he made it clear that the club will “spend to the cap.” The franchise’s alternate governor insisted he doesn’t “begrudge” anyone looking for a “big paycheck,” as Boston is “writing a big one” itself to put forth a competitive team.
Cam Neely spoke even more freely than Jacobs on Monday about the Swayman situation, offering insight into what the Bruins offered the star goaltender. But the sides remain at a stalemate, which forced Jim Montgomery to reveal his tentative goaltending plan for Boston’s regular-season opener next week.
So, barring an imminent push across the goal line, it will be Joonas Korpisalo in net for the B’s next Tuesday when they visit the reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers.
