Another Patriots Legend Openly Criticizes Head Coach Jerod Mayo

Every member of the Patriots needs to step up their game, including the head coach.

NFL fans and media members are finding more and more ways to criticize Jerod Mayo, whose team sits at 1-6 entering Week 8. Things have gotten so out of hand for New England that even legends of the organization, who share a bond with Mayo, are taking aim at the first-year head coach.

Ty Law, following in Devin McCourty’s footsteps, was the latest Patriots icon to send a blunt message to Mayo.

“He has to do something other than just delegating and staying there coaching, get the stuff back through his microphone. You have to be an active participant,” Law said Tuesday on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show.” “Not only coaching the team, but if need be, going into that offensive huddle on the sideline, doing those adjustments at halftime. If you need to get on your defense, you know what? Get off the sideline. ‘Hey, offensive coordinator. If you’re going to delegate, I need to go talk to the defense because they’re soft as hell.'”

Sunday presents a great opportunity for the Patriots, who are set to host a beat-up New York Jets team that is coming off an embarrassing primetime less. But if New England is flattened again by its fiercest rival, the cries for Mayo to have a shorter leash only will become louder.
