Bill Belichick To Jets? How Julian Edelman Feels About Fascinating Idea

Bill Belichick once had a very, very brief tenure as head coach the New York Jets.

But perhaps the Jets are now the best chance for the legendary coach to get back on an NFL sideline after New York fired Robert Saleh earlier this week.

While Belichick appears to have a deep-rooted hatred for that franchise, former New England Patriots star and three-time Super Bowl champion Julian Edelman knows there’s at least one thing Belichick, and even Mike Vrabel, like about the Jets.

“The Jets do have a really good defense and those are two real defensive-happy head coaches,” Edelmen said on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” on Thursday. “I’m telling you, Bill, if you listen to him talk about (C.J.) Mosley and the whole defensive front for the Jets, he like that — he loves that team.”

The Jets are probably at the bottom of Belichick’s wish list when the coaching carousel begins in the offseason. Belichick has been most linked to the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys with Nick Sirianni and Mike McCarthy, respectively, on the hot seat.

But if Sirianni and McCarthy save their jobs with strong seasons, Belichick’s options will get very slim. And Belichick would have to put a lot of feelings aside to join the Jets.

“I love (Vrabel), but I could never see those two — we never liked the Jets,” Edelman said. “It was always exactly what you said. Now, they did have a few teams with Rex (Ryan) that we were 14-2, smoked them three weeks before, go to the division round, they smoked us. They beat us a couple times like that. That was always a hiccup. That was always blip on the radar that was unpredictable.

“I can’t even come up with a thought because I’m thinking about if Vrabel or Bill went to the Jets. It just doesn’t feel right.”
