Sunday was a very, very busy day for the Boston Bruins.
The highlight, of course, was the announcement of a new contract for star goaltender Jeremy Swayman, who signed an expensive eight-year deal with Boston. General manager Don Sweeney acknowledged impending "really hard" roster moves as he announced Swayman's contract, and the B's made a bunch of them ahead of their regular-season opener.
Boston assigned a total of nine players to Providence following its preseason finale. Fabian Lysell headlined the list, and he was joined by Ryan Bischel, Michael Callahan, Riley Duran, Jackson Edward, Brett Harrison, Kasimir Kaskisuo, Georgii Merkulov and Jaxon Nelson.
The Bruins also waived five players Sunday with the purpose of assigning to Providence. The most notable were Brandon Bussi and Jiri Patera, a pair of goaltenders whose projected roles with Boston diminished after Swayman's contract situation was resolved.

The Black and Gold, including Swayman, traveled from Boston to Florida on Sunday ahead of the NHL's Opening Night for the 2024-25 campaign. The Atlantic Division rivals are set to meet Tuesday night at Amerant Bank Arena, where the Panthers will hang the franchise's first Stanley Cup championship banner before puck drop.
The tilt is set for 7 p.m. ET, and NESN will carry both pregame and postgame coverage.
