Bruins Superfan Wears Spectacular Jack Edwards Costume For Halloween

NESN’s iconic Bruins duo Jack Edwards and Andy Brickley returned this Halloween.

A young, passionate Boston fan named Silas and his father dressed up as Edwards and Brickley, respectively, for Halloween. Silas’ Edwards costume included not only a suit, tie (a Bruins one at that) and glasses but also a customized wheelchair.

It even featured a recreation of the NESN desk, the Bruins lineup and, of course, a cup of Dunkin’.

Silas suffered a traumatic brain injury at birth and lives daily with Spastic Quadriplegia Cerebral Palsy and a host of other secondary diagnoses. That doesn’t prevent him from providing laughs and joy to whoever he meets.

His mother, Melissa, documented Silas’ “saga,” showing the positive and emotional moments of caring for a differently abled child. She hopes that by sharing these moments and Silas’ journey it can help people understand his world and also provide inspiration for caregivers or parents experiencing a similar path.

Part of the bright moments shared is a yearly Halloween tradition where Melissa and her husband do a custom build of their son’s wheelchair. This is Silas’ third (!) Bruins-related Halloween costume. Two years ago, Silas dressed up as a Bruins player placed into the penalty box by his father, who dressed up as a referee. The duo also teamed up for a “Happy Gilmore”-inspired costume.

It probably goes without saying, but Silas loves hockey. He and his dad, Matt, routinely watch Bruins games on NESN together. And when the weather gets colder, they take it outside, where Matt built a backyard rink with a ramp for Silas to take his twirls around the ice.

“It brings Silas so much joy to be out on the rink playing hockey,” his mom, Mel, told NESN in an email.

It still might be a little early in the season to hit the outdoor ice, but there are other tasks at hand to address first — like trick or treating.

“When we see those big smiles on his face, and see how his costume draws his peers in to interact with him, it’s worth all the sleepless nights and hours of work making these costumes come to life!” Mel added.

This year’s Edwards costume was timely, as NESN celebrates the former play-by-play broadcaster and his best moments this Sunday. The celebration will be part of NESN’s broadcast for Boston’s matchup against the Seattle Kraken at TD Garden.
