Celtics Drawing Asinine Criticism After Dominant Season Opener

Boston should keep on shooting

The Celtics like to shoot from beyond the three-point line, and you should probably just get used to it.

Boston opened its season with a dominant showing against the New York Knicks on Tuesday, reminding everyone exactly how they like to play basketball by tying the NBA record for most three-pointers made in a single game with 29.

Jayson Tatum led the charge with 37 points, while Jaylen Brown chipped in with 23, Derrick White finished with 24 and Jrue Holiday scored 18 — combining to make 23-of-36 shots from beyond the arc. It’s about as impressive a shooting display as you could possibly have, but there are certain folks who didn’t enjoy watching that style of basketball.

Those people stink.

The C’s aren’t “ruining basketball” by shooting a ton of threes, they’re perfecting a style of play that was introduced over a decade ago by putting on passing and screening clinics — which is going to force defenses to get better. It’s a bit much to say they’re perfecting the sport, but it’s hard to argue that anyone else is doing it better.

Tatum isolated himself a few times, sure, but that came after he already started the game by knocking down 5-of-7 attempts. The Celtics played their brand of basketball, blew past their biggest competition, raised a banner and kickstarted their pursuit of another all in one night.

Quit complaining, we’re sure there will be real things to be upset about at some point this season.
