Drake Maye Will Have Tough Time Topping Jayden Daniels’ Miracle Feat

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye will always be compared to the fellow signal-callers in his draft class, especially the two selected right before him.

While Maye made just his third career NFL start Sunday, in which he exited early due to a concussion, Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels made not only the signature player of his Rookie of the Year case, but arguably the best play in the NFL this season.

Daniels launched a Hail Mary as time expired to the end zone and his pass got tipped up into the air before landing safely in the hands of Noah Brown for a miraculous 52-yard touchdown to lift the Commanders to an unbelievable 18-15 win over the Chicago Bears.

Daniels, who wasn’t a lock to play Sunday due to a rib injury, finished the game completing 21-of-38 passes for 326 yards and one touchdown. He also ran eight times for 52 yards.

He surely outperformed Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, who got drafted No. 1 overall this past April. Williams completed 10-of-24 passes for 131 yards with no touchdowns and carried the ball 10 times for 41 yards.

Daniels certainly has set the bar for all the other rookies, including Maye, to reach. Maye has flashed his superb tools that made him the No. 3 overall pick, but it’s been in a small sample size for the Patriots signal-caller after he started the season as Jacoby Brissett’s backup.

Daniels has done more with more playing time than Maye, including somehow pulling off this Hail Mary, which granted featured a majority of luck.

But even so, it’s going to be extremely hard for Maye to top that, at least this season.
