'Who are we gonna blame next?'
One week after firing their head coach, the Jets made another drastic move in hopes of saving their season.
New York on Tuesday morning reportedly ironed out the framework of a blockbuster trade with the Las Vegas Raiders for Davante Adams. The deal, which reportedly was agreed to less than 12 hours after the Jets dropped to 2-4, reunited Adams with legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
ESPN’s Booger McFarland isn’t expecting Gang Green to feature the dynamic Rodgers-Adams connection we saw for years with the Packers, though.
“Can’t wait for the Jets to get Adams and still be bad,” the former NFL defensive lineman posted to X shortly after news of the trade broke. “Who are we gonna blame next? Surely it won’t be the quarterback.”
Rodgers certainly no longer looks like the quarterback who helped Adams post a career-high 18 receiving touchdowns in 2020 and 1,553 yards in 2021. But the Jets already are in desperation mode, and the star wide receiver was readily available after asking out of Las Vegas.
Time will tell if Rodgers and Adams can rekindle their magic in the Meadowlands. But as McFarland suggested, the self-absorbed signal-caller probably won’t be held accountable if the duo doesn’t put up numbers.
