'I talk about how much I disliked New England'
Jerod Mayo and the New England Patriots weren’t the only ones who caught heat from Bill Belichick coming out of Week 7.
So did the New York Giants, who were absolutely crushed at home by the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles. Belichick tore the G-Men apart on Monday’s episode of “The Pat McAfee Show” and was particularly hard on Brian Daboll’s offensive line.
One member of that O-line, Jermaine Eluemunor, has a history with Belichick. Eluemunor played 22 games with the Patriots between the 2019 and 2020 seasons, including eight starts in his final campaign with New England. Appearing on WFAN on Wednesday, the veteran tackle was asked about Belichick’s harsh words.
“Bill was my coach before, and you know, I talk about how much I disliked New England,” Eluemunor said, as transcribed by Audacy. “So, whatever Bill thinks is what Bill thinks; everyone’s free to have their opinion and I don’t really care about his. We’ve been one of the best when it comes to pass blocking in the league, and when we get the opportunity to run block, we’ve been pretty damn good, too. So, I couldn’t care less what a coach outside the building who’s not even a coach right now has to say. That’s not a shot towards him. Obviously, he’s a legendary coach. But I couldn’t care less what someone outside the building has to say about our unit when there’s a lot worse situations than ours right now.”
Belichick’s shredding of the Giants was a bit surprising, as the coaching legend won two Super Bowls with New York and has a well-known respect for the storied organization.
But maybe there was a motive behind the remarks. The Giants need a lot of fixing, and maybe Belichick was trying to spotlight those shortcomings in hopes of seeing a head coaching vacancy created in the Meadowlands.
