Ex-Red Sox Alex Verdugo Leaves World Series With Brutal Ending

New York Yankees outfielder Alex Verdugo will see his final at-bat of the 2024 season played on a loop, especially in Los Angeles, for years to come.

That’s because it came attached with a championship for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Verdugo, who the Boston Red Sox traded to the Yankees this past offseason, came nowhere close to sparking a ninth-inning rally for New York, but did go down swinging. He missed on three straight pitches from Walker Buehler to clinch a 7-6 Game 5 win for Los Angeles at Yankee Stadium and sent the Dodgers into a celebration frenzy on the field.

It was a bizarre first season in pinstripes for Verdugo. He dealt with struggles at the plate and it seemed like at one point prospect Jasson Dominguez would overtake him in the outfield.

But Yankees manager Aaron Boone stuck with Verdugo, who got his chance to play in his first World Series. The 28-year-old didn’t exactly set the world on fire in his first Fall Classic. He went 4-for-17 (.235) with one home run and four RBIs.

He also had four strikeouts in the series, one of which he certainly won’t want to remember.
