How Davante Adams Saga Made Raiders Sneaky Week 5 Winner

The Raiders still stink, but ...

The Jets have a problem they can’t necessarily fix by adding a receiver. Quite frankly, though, they’re probably beyond the point of caring about that.

Especially now that Davante Adams is available.

Adams’ time in Las Vegas, forgettable to say the least, is seemingly reaching its merciful end. Adams hasn’t had the same impact since his split with the Packers. He was at his best with Aaron Rodgers, and it shouldn’t come as much surprise that a reunion with the four-time MVP is the most likely outcome.

Just about all of the reports point to the Jets landing Adams, and that’s reinforced within the betting market. According to Action Network, these are the favorites to acquire Adams in a trade with the Raiders.

Davante Adams next-team odds
Jets -110
Saints +275
Steelers +450
Commanders +800
Cowboys +800
Chiefs +1200
49ers +1600
Bills +1600
Ravens +1600

Even before Week 5 kicked off, NESN.com’s Mike Cole and Ricky Doyle explored the Adams market on “The Spread,” NESN’s football picks podcast. They agreed the Jets were the most sensical outcome — and that was before the Jets struggled through a loss — their third of the season — to the Vikings in London on Sunday.

Monday night’s matchup between the New Orleans Saints and Kansas City Chiefs is a very interesting game for handicapping the Adams sweepstakes. If the Jets can’t get it done, Adams reportedly wouldn’t mind reuniting with Derek Carr in The Big Easy (with the feeling reportedly mutual). The Chiefs, as evidenced by the odds, are a relatively long shot as a division rival of the Raiders, but KC should be among the most motivated teams to pry Adams from the desert. They are decimated at the receiver position, and they can’t exactly afford to lean on Travis Kelce all season, either. Adams would be a much-needed shot in the arm.

In a lot of ways, Week 5 was a good one for the Raiders, at least about Adams. There are a lot of team who could use his help. That means more competition, a bigger market. The Steelers’ offensive limitations were on display Sunday night. The same honestly could be said for their opponents, the Cowboys, who could reunite Adams with Mike McCarthy. The Buffalo Bills look like they badly need help, too. Josh Allen’s unsightly stat line (9-of-30!) was largely a product of poor receiver play from an already thin group.

A team like the Commanders doesn’t appear to need much help on that side of the ball, but if they believe they’re for real in Year 1 of the Jayden Daniels era, swinging a deal for a true stud like Adams could be a major coup.

The Nov. 5 NFL trade deadline will be here before we know it, and Adams is the biggest domino that will have to fall, and if it happens sooner than later, the sweepstakes will be fascinating to watch.
