Jayson Tatum went off script when he addressed a raucous group of Celtics fans Tuesday night.

Tatum planned a message to deliver to folks in attendance at TD Garden, where Boston raised another NBA championship banner before its 2024-25 season opener. But “emotions got the best” of the superstar forward, who tied a bow on the pregame ceremony by saying, “Let’s do it again” to the Celtics’ loyal fanbase.

The five-time All-Star spoke about the spontaneous soundbite after Boston’s rout of the New York Knicks, noting the C’s must focus on the present rather than looking ahead to another playoff run. But once again, Tatum changed directions when he took to social media after scoring a game-high 37 points in the first game of the Celtics’ title defense.

“Let’s do it again,” Tatum posted to X on Wednesday afternoon.

It’s important for Joe Mazzulla’s side to not get ahead of itself, but Tatum has every right to be confident. The Celtics steamrolled through the competition last season, returned nearly every player from their championship roster and annihilated a projected title contender on Opening Night. That lopsided affair also went down without arguably Boston’s third-best player, who could make the reigning champs virtually unstoppable when he returns from injury.

So yeah, Tatum and company are in a great position to do it again.
