Jones replaced Trevor Lawrence in garbage time
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence did nothing to silence the national murmurs, despite the fact he benefited from traveling out of the United States.
Mac Jones replaced Lawrence with 3:20 left in Jacksonville’s 35-16 defeat to the Chicago Bears. Lawrence and the Jaguars dropped to 1-5 via the blowout loss at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
Lawrence was 23-for-35 for 234 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Jones threw one completed pass for 6 yards and took one sack.
Lawrence is not the only problem in Jacksonville, to be sure. But the 2021 No. 1 overall pick continues to take steps back in his fourth season. He missed plenty of throws against the Bears and also was hindered by receiver drops. Lawrence threw an ugly interception early in the fourth quarter, his third interception in six games this season.
Football fans took notice of Lawrence’s poor performance and questioned whether or not Jones, a first-round pick the same year as Lawrence, might give the group a better chance.
While previous calls for Jones to replace Lawrence felt far-fetched, they’re starting to feel closer to the realm of possibility. It’s clear the Jaguars are going nowhere fast and both head coach Doug Pederson and Lawrence could lose their jobs because of it.
The Jaguars will remain in London for the week and face the New England Patriots in an international contest in Week 7.
