'That was wild, man'
Mookie Betts took the high road Tuesday night when he spoke about his run-in with a Yankees fan.
Betts was the victim of one of the most egregious acts of fan interference in MLB history. But despite having his glove and wrist yanked by a New York supporter, the Dodgers star called the incident “irrelevant” and seemed eager to put it in the past.
Of course, Betts made those remarks when Los Angeles still needed one more win to claim the World Series. The Dodgers secured that all-important triumph in Game 5, where Betts logged the go-ahead RBI in the eighth inning after his team mounted a huge comeback.
The three-time World Series champion revisited the reckless interference once LA’s job was finished, and he admitted he saw red in the moment.
“That was wild, man,” Betts said on FOX. “That was really wild. I’ve never experienced anything like that. I was telling my wife — that was like the second time in my life that I’ve ever wanted to fight someone. But I get it, man. I get it. I don’t know what he was really trying to do, but he had to do what he had to do. It is what it is.”
Austin Capobianco, the 38-year-old who interfered with Betts, was banned from attending Wednesday night’s game in the Bronx. But that ended up being in the best interest of the Connecticut native, who didn’t have a firsthand view of his favorite team collapsing with everything on the line.
