The NFL trade deadline is Nov. 5
The Patriots season looks bleak, but they could keep an eye toward the future before the NFL trade deadline.
New England has multiple veteran players it could part with that could help a contender. While it might look bad in the short term, it would be wise of executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf to acquire assets to help the Patriots rebuild.
That seems to be the case as The Athletic’s Dianna Russini wrote in her Saturday column that she’s been told “to keep an eye on the Patriots” in the trade market. The NFL insider added New England would “listen to any proposal.” Two players she highlighted as possible trade candidates were defensive tackle Davon Godchaux and wide receiver Kendrick Bourne.
Trading Godchaux would be an interesting choice after the Patriots restructured the defensive tackle’s contract last summer after the 29-year-old publicly complained about it. Godchaux also was a vocal leader of the team calling out his teammates multiple times this season.
Bourne seems to be the leader of the wide receiver room that’s been vocal about its frustrations over the past week. However, he and Godchaux would benefit another team rather than trying to salvage the rest of the Patriots’ season.
