NHL Docuseries Details Infamous Maple Leafs Blow-Up In Bruins Series

Maple Leafs forwards Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander had a heated exchange on the bench during the second period of Toronto’s Game 4 loss to the Boston Bruins in the 2023-24 Stanley Cup playoffs.

The exchange left fans guessing what Nylander yelled at his teammates but the Amazon docuseries “Faceoff: Inside the NHL” caught the entire encounter since he was mic’d up for the game, and it was confirmed, per The Athletic’s Mark Lazerus.

“(Expletive) shoot it! Stop (expletive) crying! This is the (expletive) issue, you guys (expletive) (expletive) about (expletive). Let’s (expletive) go!”

The first episode, “Best of Rivals,” centers on Nylander’s friendship with Bruins star David Pastrnak. The installment debuts on Prime Video on Oct. 4. The trailer for the six-part series shows Nylander and Pastrnak having dinner and talking about the possibility of a first-round series between the two Original Six franchises.

“If you don’t win the Cup, it doesn’t matter who moves on from the first round,” Pastrnak said in the clip.

The episode is said to feature a more Maple Leafs-centric tone than Bruins. However, there is a segment with Pastrnak discussing his devotion to his daughter Freya, according to Lazerus.

The series will feature insight from Pastrnak and Bruins restricted free agent goalie Jeremy Swayman along with Nylander, Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog, Edmonton Oilers stars Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman, Florida Panthers forward and Stanley Cup champion Matthew Tkachuk and many more. Camera crews were embedded with each player and their families and friends as their teams battled through the postseason.
