NHL Rumors: Linus Ullmark’s New Contract Includes Critical Detail

Ullmark is hitching his wagon to the Senators

Jeremy Swayman’s and Linus Ullmark’s respective new contracts are similar in more ways than one.

Three days after Swayman signed an eight-year, $66 million deal with the Boston Bruins, Ullmark signed a new pact with the Ottawa Senators featuring the exact same average annual value. The 2023 Vezina Trophy winner, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason, is in line to rake in $33 million over the next four campaigns.

And like Swayman in Boston, Ullmark’s new commitment to Ottawa goes beyond a wealth of cash. The veteran netminder’s new contract with the Senators includes a full no-movement clause for all four seasons, per The Athletic.

This detail marked a change from the four-year, $20 million deal Ullmark signed with the Bruins in July 2021. That contract included a partial no-trade clause, which allowed Ullmark to compile a list of teams that he did not want to play for. The 31-year-old reportedly vetoed a trade to the Los Angeles Kings before last season’s deadline but was content with relocating to Ottawa in late June.

In turn, the B’s are slated to see plenty of their old friend over the next handful of seasons. Ullmark’s first time facing Boston with Ottawa could be Nov. 9 when the Sens visit TD Garden.
