Patriots Make Two Additions Following Josh Uche Trade

The Patriots opened up a roster spot on Monday, and their choice to fill it was rather obvious.

New England officially signed linebacker Ochaun Mathis to the active roster Tuesday, replacing Joshua Uche after his trade to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mathis, 25, was previously on the practice squad and had run out of standard elevations. The Patriots would not have been able to activate him again without signing him to the 53-man unit, so they brought the core special teamer aboard full-time.

New England, of course, opened up a practice squad spot with that move and chose to fill it by signing wide receiver Braylon Sanders.

Sanders, 25, originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Miami Dolphins. The Ole Miss alum averaged 23.7 yards per catch his final two years in college and spent two seasons on their practice squad before being released in September.

The Patriots do not have any open spots on their active roster or practice squad.
