New York leads the ALDS 1-0 over the Kansas City Royals
Pedro Martinez knows everything about facing the New York Yankees in the postseason. The former Boston Red Sox pitcher is no stranger to watching playoff baseball in New York and sounded off after the Yankees took a 1-0 series lead in the American League Division Series over the Kansas City Royals.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. appeared to be caught stealing with Antony Volpe at the plate during the seventh inning of Game 1 with his foot tagged off the base. Instead, the replay review called Chisholm Jr. safe at second. The Yankees stayed alive to rally when former Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo drove in the go-ahead run as the decisive score in the contest at Yankee Stadium.
Hours before Game 2 in the Bronx, Martinez floated his big-market theory that MLB favors star-studded teams such as New York.
“I think they got robbed, but you know Steve, this is New York!” Martinez told Bleacher Report’s Steve Perrault on Monday. “The umpires, where are they? In New York! It’s the Yankees. They have to win in New York. That’s how I feel. … That is such BS.”
The Yankees seek a 2-0 series lead before heading to Kansas City with first pitch at Yankee Stadium set for 7:38 p.m. ET on Monday night.
