Brissett reportedly won't start in Week 6
The New England Patriots reportedly are ready for a big shakeup under center, rolling with Drake Maye as the starting quarterback in Week 6 against the Houston Texans.
That sends veteran Jacoby Brissett to backup duties for the Patriots, the role he initially filled during his rookie campaign in his first stint in New England back in 2016. The 31-year-old completed 58.5% of his passes for 696 yards with two touchdowns and an interception in five starts this season.
Brissett originally believed he would remain the starter as recently as Monday following New England’s fourth consecutive loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday to close out Week 5.
“Nope, I don’t have any questions on that,” Brissett shared on “The WEEI Afternoon Show” on Monday.
Instead, Maye makes his first professional start after a quick relief outing against the New York Jets in primetime during a Week 3 loss for the Patriots at MetLife Stadium. The North Carolina product completed just four of his eight passes for 22 yards against the AFC East rivals.
Maye and the Patriots face a formidable foe against the Texans and star quarterback C.J. Stroud on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Gillette Stadium.
