The New England Patriots backed Jacoby Brissett as the starting quarterback after their ugly loss last Sunday and a segment of fans agreed with that decision but for different reasons.
Despite Brissett's poor play, head coach Jerod Mayo dismissed the idea of replacing the veteran with rookie Drake Maye. There's a logical rationale for the decision, but it became tough to justify after watching the Brissett's lack of playmaking in the Week 4 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Some Patriots fans still want Brissett to be the starter but not because he is better than Maye. Rather, they want Brissett to protect the rookie from taking the physical hits he took playing behind a horrid offense line.
It's a cruel way of thinking when you look deeper outside of football, and it's one Brissett was well aware of.

"It is (disrespectful), but, at the same time, it's like, a lot of those people don't know me," Brissett said on the "WEEI Afternoon Show." "I could not care less, but why waste my time to worry about the people that say those things? I just block it out."
Brissett inspired confidence in Week 1, but his play during New England's three-game losing streak left a lot to be desired. Mayo expressed confidence in his veteran quarterback, but Week 5 against the Miami Dolphins might test that faith if results don't show up.
