Why Julian Edelman Blames Tom Brady For Jets’ Dysfunction

The Jets aren’t where they imagined they’d be near the midway point of the NFL season, and they left Week 7 with more questions than answers.

New York fell to 2-5 after their latest loss, and the addition of Davante Adams didn’t make any immediate difference. Aaron Rodgers blamed his wide receivers and the media for his team’s problems, but a New England Patriots legend offered a unique explanation.

“You’ve got to blame Tom Brady for this. He goes over to Tampa Bay and wins a Super Bowl and now everyone thinks they can do it,” Edelman told Colin Cowherd on “The Herd” on Monday. “The (Los Angeles) Rams go on two years later and do the same kind of thing. This is kind of a new wrinkle in the league where teams are trying to buy the Super Bowl. ‘Let’s go try to buy it.'”

Edelman and Cowherd tried to be fair to Rodgers by noting the 2020 Buccaneers and 2022 Rams (Matthew Stafford’s second season in LA) also started off slow before getting hot for their respective Super Bowl runs. The Rodgers experiment also was an uphill battle after the QB tore his Achilles in Week 1 of the 2023 season.

However, Cowherd argued Rodgers isn’t the type of player who rallies his teammates. Edelman noted the lack of offseason practice time might have hurt the Jets, too.

That said, Rodgers does things his way, and New York ownership seemed comfortable with that idea. If the Jets can’t get right, that sentiment could change, though. New York has a chance to start that process on Sunday when the Patriots welcome Rodgers to Gillette Stadium.
