Boston Brawlers: Six Bruins Highlights From Inconsistent Week

There was a rare case of a young Bruins forward dropping the gloves

The Bruins didn’t end October strong, but they showed flashes of life in the final week of the month.

Welcome to “Boston Brawlers,” a series where we look back at the top hits, fights and other physical moments from the B’s. Let’s not waste any time and get into the action.

Fourth Line = Best Line
The fourth line continues to be the highlight for Jim Montomgery’s side regarding physicality and goal-scoring production. We saw how efficiently the line works when Cole Koepke set the tone on the forecheck to set a scoring chance for Mark Kastelic.

Geeks Run Over
In Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers at TD Garden, Boston tried to get itself going. In the period after the aforementioned scoring chance from the fourth line, Morgan Geekie lay in a big hit on Tyson Foerster while also drawing a power-play opportunity.

Matty Shows Fight
We’re sticking with the same game where Matthew Poitras also showed some fight. Flyers blueliner Emil Andrae sucker punched Poitras, so the Bruins forward gave it to him. It’s that physicality and fight the Black and Gold hope to see more from the 20-year-old.

Russian Bulldozer
Thursday’s 8-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes was one to forget, but Nikita Zadorov had the small highlights from the matchup. The blueliner tried to get the B’s going when he knocked Jesperi Kotkaniemi off his skates. He also didn’t quit in the third period when he flattened Jackson Blake.

Showing Fight
It hasn’t been a great start to the season from Max Jones, but he laid in a good open-ice hit in the second period of Thursday’s loss at Lenovo Center.

Boston will hope November treats it right as the Bruins enter the month last in the Atlantic Division. The players backed Montgomery amid their struggles, so they’ll continue to show some fight as they try to find solutions to their problems.
