Brandon Carlo Takes Scary Shot Into Boards During Bruins-Stars Game

Carlo already suffered several concussions in his career

The Boston Bruins entered Thursday’s game against the Dallas Stars without Hampus Lindholm, who will be out for “weeks” per head coach Jim Montgomery after blocking a shot and suffering a leg injury Tuesday night against the St. Louis Blues.

Not even a period into Thursday’s matchup, Boston lost another defenseman in Brandon Carlo. The Bruins veteran took a cross-check to the back from Dallas captain Jamie Benn and went head-first into the boards behind Boston’s net. Carlo stayed on the ice after taking defenseless contact while Nikita Zadorov stepped up to fight Benn in response to the controversial hit.

Originally ruled a five-minute major, Benn only received a two-minute minor penalty for boarding, which NESN analyst Andy Brickley called “hard to understand anymore in this league” in regards to the penalty.

Carlo skated off the ice with guidance from Boston captain Brad Marchand and exited to the the Bruins locker room. The Bruins have yet to share an update on Carlo’s condition, but he was spotted on the bench during the second period.
