Christian Barmore Sends Message After First Practice Since Major Health Issue

Barmore is determined to push through the adversity

Christian Barmore’s 2024 season hit an unexpected roadblock this summer.

The Patriots defensive tackle, coming off a breakout season in which he emerged as a star on New England’s defense, was sidelined indefinitely due to blood clots — he was placed on the non-football illness list. But after three months of dealing with the major health scare, Barmore finally returned to practice Thursday as a limited participant.

The 25-year-old has yet to discuss his difficult situation with the media but he made it clear with a social media post following the practice session that he is determined to push through the adversity.

“When there is pain, there is no gain,” Barmore posted on his Instagram story as shared by Sports Illustrated’s Mike Kadlick on the X platform.

Barmore entered this season with high expectations after he became a dominant force on the interior of New England’s defensive line. He tallied a career-high 8.5 sacks to go along with 64 tackles.

It’s incredibly unlikely Barmore will be ready to suit up Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams even with the Patriots dealing with a banged-up defensive line. The Patriots did open Barmore’s practice window, meaning they have until Dec. 5 to activate him to the 53-man roster.
