Swayman made 23 saves in the win
BOSTON — Jeremy Swayman earned his first shutout of the season when the Bruins blanked the Seattle Kraken at TD Garden on Saturday night.
After facing just 10 shots through the first 40 minutes of the game, Swayman had to come up huge for the Bruins when the Kraken pushed back in the third and peppered him with 13 shots in the final frame.
“It’s just finding your flow,” Swayman said. “I know what I need to do to stay in the moment and keep it one shot at a time.”
Not only was Swayman flawless in net, but the skaters in front of him blocked 27 Seattle shots, including 16 across the first two periods.
“The guys in front of me did a great job of clogging the middle,” Swayman said. “And (they) let me see the first shot, so that was a really good team win.”
Swayman gave up six goals on 22 shots through a period and a half against the Carolina Hurricanes last Thursday night and was pulled just 30 minutes into the game.
Bouncing back from that performance and pitching back-to-back shutouts with fellow Bruins goalie Joonas Korpisalo was huge for Swayman and his teammates.
“That’s a lot of momentum for our team,” Swayman said. “It’s something I haven’t shared before (the back-to-back shutouts) with another goalie. Korpi, big hats off to him for leading the way.”
The Bruins won their second consecutive game for just the second time this season. The first back-to-back wins game when the Black and Gold defeated the Montreal Canadiens and Los Angeles Kings in the first week of the season.
“It’s just really special to see our team come together and not take no for an answer,” Swayman said. “The way that we pounced on them early, I think set the tone for the whole game.
“… It was a good sense in the locker room of knowing that we’re not playing to our standard yet. There’s so much room to improve, and I think that’s our mindset right now is making sure that we’re doing our job every day to the max of our abilities, and it’s really great to see the guys getting rewarded for that.”
The Bruins will look to build on the wins and extend their streak to three games on Tuesday night in Toronto when they take on the Maple Leafs.
“I think the way our defense clogged the middle and made sure that if they’re going to get a Grade A (chance) they ‘re going to have to work for it,” Swayman said. “You saw the blocked shots tonight, the effort the guys gave, and I think the offense had a lot of close calls, too. It’s, again, a lot to build on but still a lot to work on, and that’s our mindset moving forward.”
