Jets Continue Wholesale Changes Amid Horrid Season

The Jets didn’t turn things around when they fired Robert Saleh, so another key figure got the axe.

New York on Tuesday announced the organization fired general manager Joe Douglas after five seasons.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the three-time Super Bowl champion’s contract was set to expire after this season, but the Jets chose not to wait. The 48-year-old finished 30-64 as Jets GM.

Douglas oversaw the end of the Sam Darnold era and was the head of the Zach Wilson era. His biggest move for the Jets was trading for Aaron Rodgers. However, the 40-year-old has been rough this season, leading Gang Green to a 3-8 record after Week 11. Douglas also traded for Davante Adams, which also didn’t prove to be a difference-maker.

The changes for the Jets could continue. Rodgers’ contract expires after this season, and owner Woody Johnson could return to his role as United States ambassador to the United Kingdom as he did in Donald Trump’s first term.

No matter what happens, there will be a complete overhaul as New York tries to right the ship after an awful season that had high expectations.
