Mike Florio Shares Intriguing Intel About Bill Belichick Hypothetical

Doug Pederson’s days in Jacksonville appear numbered. The Jaguars suffered their worst loss in franchise history in Week 11 — a 52-6 shellacking in Detroit — and fell to 2-9 on the season. If the campaign ended Sunday, Jacksonville would own the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft.

Pederson probably won’t be with the organization when it makes its next top draft pick, but the same can’t be said for general manager Trent Baalke. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio on Sunday shared some inside information about a potential scenario where Baalke keeps his job and helps bring on a new coach.

“I’ve talked to several people throughout the league and there’s a belief in some circles that he could potentially survive into next year as part of a package deal that would reunite him with someone he worked with back in 1998-99 with the New York Jets,” Florio said on NBC. “That coach is available, he’s won a few Super Bowls. His name is Bill Belichick.”

Belichick reportedly wants to return to coaching next season and covets a power situation similar to the one he had with the New England Patriots. It’s unclear if the Jaguars would be willing to hand so much over to the eight-time Super Bowl champion, who might not even be interested in taking his talents to Jacksonville.

Because with the way things are trending around the league, there could be more than a few head-coaching vacancies once the dust settles on the regular season.
